Residence Visa
If your partner is a Resident, Permanent Resident or a Citizen of New Zealand, then you may be eligible to live with your partner in New Zealand permanently. To be eligible for this type of visa you must:
- meet Health and Character requirements
- travel to New Zealand alone or together to be with your partner
- prove that your relationship is genuine and stable and that you have lived together for at least one year
- not have sponsored (or your New Zealand partner), or been part of, a previous partnership application, within at least five years of gaining residence. Four years must have passed before you will be eligible for a temporary visa.
INZ welcomes applications from persons who have specific skills which can contribute to New Zealand’s economic growth. To apply under this category, you are required to make an Expression of Interest (EOI), which outlines your work experience and qualifications. If your EOI is successful, INZ will send you an Invitation to Apply (ITA) to live and work in New Zealand.
For your EOI to be considered, you must obtain at least 160 points, which derive from the following:

In addition to the above, other eligibility criteria must be met including:
AGE – you must be between 20 – 55 years old
HEALTH – You must be of Acceptable Standard of Health (ASH)
CHARACTER – You must be of good character
ENGLISH PROFICIENCY
Both the Principal Applicant and their Partner must meet the minimum English Language Requirements
RENUMERATION – Your salary or wages must be no less than $25.50 per hour
HOURS PER WEEK – Your employment must be full time at least 30 hours per week
PARTNER – Your partner can be included in your application.
